"MB Shorebreak" triptych — Ryan Cardone

I'm proud to have my work included in the 2026 Annual Community Exhibition at the Manhattan Beach Art Center — a showcase of over 100 artists who live, work, and play right here in Manhattan Beach.

The piece on display is my "MB Shorebreak" triptych — a set of three long-exposure panels, each 22.5" × 30". It's some of my most personal work, made just a few blocks from where the show is hanging.

MB Shorebreak is born out of my love for walking along the Manhattan Beach shoreline. Using long exposure and a slow shutter speed, I let the water paint itself across the frame — the waves softening into something dreamlike, the sky stretching into bands of color and light.

What draws me back again and again is that no two walks are ever the same. The mood shifts, the light changes, the surf tells a different story every time. This series is my attempt to hold onto those fleeting moments — the ones that stop you mid-stride and remind you why you live somewhere so special.

MB Shorebreak is an ongoing series, because as long as the ocean keeps changing, I'll keep showing up.
