MB Shorebreak 1 is the opening piece in a limited edition series shot at the shoreline of Manhattan Beach — from the sand, looking out. Where much of my work puts me inside the break, this series plants me at the edge of it, where the wave meets the beach and the light from the sky reflects back up through the wet sand.

This image is about color in layers — the deep teal of the water, the soft blur of the shorebreak, the pinks and golds of a South Bay sunset bleeding across the horizon and pooling in the sand below. Nothing here is filtered or artificially enhanced. That palette — those specific blues, pinks, and golds — is what Manhattan Beach actually looks like at that hour, on that evening, when everything lines up.

The coast gives you moments like this and then takes them back. This one I kept.
